Creating a New VPN User and Generating OpenVPN Client File #
Follow the steps below to create a new VPN user and generate their OpenVPN client file:
Step 1: Create a New VPN User
From the pfSense dashboard: System → User Manager

- click the Add button to create a new user.
Step 2: Configure User Details
Enter a Username and Password for the new user.

Step 3: Optional Access Settings
-
- For dashboard access: add the user to the Administrators group (Group Membership → admin → Move to ‘Member of’).

- For VPN client access: check Certificate and select OpenVPN_CA under Certificate Authority (this CA is created by the QCloud team during OpenVPN setup).

- Click Save — the user now appears on the Users page.

Step 4: Generate and Download the VPN Client File
- From the top menu: VPN → OpenVPN

- Client Export tab.

- Under Remote Access Server, select TCP (QCloud’s OpenVPN uses a TCP-based connection).

- Locate the new user and click ‘Most Clients’ to download the .ovpn client file.

Step 5: Edit the VPN File — Replace Internal IP
Open the downloaded .ovpn file in Notepad (or any text editor) and replace the private IP address (e.g., 10.x.x.x) with your public/Elastic IP address, as provided in the Environment Details file by QCloud. Save the file — it is now ready for use with any standard OpenVPN client.
